BDO is PH’s Best Servic...
November 7, 2023
Michael Oyco has been in the industry since March 2013. He likes to spend his spare time productively that’s why he started “Michael’s Hut“. His blog is categorized under lifestyle/personal blogs where he shares the things he is interested in. While talking with Michael, I’ve learned that he promotes the things he like that will benefit his readers. He told me that he wants to contribute something to our country because he wants a better Philippines in the future! Michael also likes playing a number of sports to stay active and play strategic board/word games in general. He is currently doing a little bit of crypto because like me, he also invested in playing Axie Infinity and some other NFT games like Dragonary. Get to know Michael as I share our conversation.
N: What is Michael’s Hut about?
M: I named it to like having my own hut because it is the perfect image of what I would like others to see on my site, my own simple space. As a lifestyle blogger, as long as I think it’s beneficial to my readers in any way it can, I’ll share it. In the first place, when you follow a lifestyle blogger, you follow the person and all the things that go with the person.
N: When and why did you start blogging?
I started blogging last 2013 because of two things: I liked helping my friends and family promote their business by featuring them and I liked taking photos back then that transitioned to blogging. It’s not only that these 2 reasons are very productive but it’s like investing in some way just in a different form. It’s like investing in my relationships with my friends and family by helping them and investing in my future so I can reminisce and enjoy my life then when I go back through reading my old entries. They will be treasures in the future! All the other things are bonuses.
N: What’s your advice on the importance of quality and original content?
M: It’s a priority. Personally, about the importance of quality, I think thrice (or even more) when I am about to post a new article on my blog. I always ask myself, “have I done my best?”. When I feel that I haven’t, I will read it again and again and usually try to postpone it to another day and read it again just to be sure. When it comes to original content, don’t even try to do it if it’s not unless you are doing it for fun because you’ll regret it eventually.
N: What do you do when you are not blogging?
M: When I am not blogging, I play badminton from time to time and do some home exercises. Man, it’s so hard to not gain weight since the pandemic started but at least I am doing something about it LOL. But honestly, adulting is real because I am already happy when I get to sleep early. Dunno what to feel about this! Haha!
N: How do you create balance in your life?
M: Well, balance happens automatically because you’ll feel it and you’ll want to do something about it (or maybe just do something different occasionally). This is actually one of the perks of being a lifestyle blogger, you have an option to always make content out of anything BUT at the same time a curse too because it may suck some of the fun out of it especially if it’s like a travel and you feel forced to do stuff just for content. The interesting part? You’ll learn how to adapt eventually.
N: What do you consider your biggest achievement?
M: If it’s about life in general, then it’s having a relationship with our Lord, Jesus Christ. But if we are talking about my blogging life, then it’s definitely monetizing my site. It’s really a game-changer because we are now talking about a career, a livelihood by doing what you like and it’s so awesome! Haha! Actually, passing the Google Adsense requirements is a very tedious task and I am so dope to have it on my site. Thank you, Google!
N: Is there a time in your life when you feel like quitting?
M: Many times!
N: How did you overcome it?
M: When I feel like quitting, I am just blessed to have wisdom from the Lord that “this too shall pass”. This line reminds me that “that state” or “that feeling” is temporary and moving on as fast as you can is one of the best things to do. I won’t say that it will be this easy and simple but getting reminded by it helps. Usually, this feeling occurs when triggered by something bad happening.. But when you focus more on the good things rather than the bad ones, you’ll come back to your senses eventually.
N: How do you maintain authenticity?
M: This question is really hard to answer objectively but I will answer it with the words “I try to always maintain it as much as I can”. We really sometimes can’t help it to be kind of biased to some, especially if it’s sponsored but what I would like to assume is that readers actually know and feel when it’s not.
N: Who inspires you?
M: Definitely my family.
N: Why?
M: I would not have the opportunity to follow this path if it was not for them. I also would like to use this as a medium of my ministry so I inject inspirational posts from time to time. Besides, I am just bringing back all the Glory to God who gave all of what I have right now. Thank you, Lord!
N: What are your tips for aspiring content creators?
Do it because of passion, work smart, and never stop learning. They all have to work together at the same time because when it does, it will keep you going. Personally, I had phases on my blogging journey.. First I was writing because I like it, after sometime, earning was becoming a priority, then it switched to its purpose.. The brand behind the name.. And so on.. There will be cycles and phases (and there will be tough times, I tell you) but if you think you are committed enough, start now. I was writing for myself back then which I think helped me in a big way to focus on just my own craft, for my own sake. It will not be applicable to others but I think that reason is good enough to at least begin.
